Union Kansas City Soccer Tryout Information

Individual ID Sessions - These soccer tryouts are opportunities to get in front of coaches with teams that may be potential teams at your level. This is a smaller group setting than actual tryouts and can be an excellent way for the coach, player and parent to get a good feel of the level and team/club culture. This is not a tryout but it does provide additional time with a coach. Complete the Interested Player Form Here

Scheduled ID Sessions for entire age groups - These local soccer tryouts in Kansas City are club organized age group identification sessions. Current players and interested players will have a combined session.

Player Placement Series 2025

A Guided Process

Pre-Phase: Current players continue with their normal team activities. Outside Interested players complete the “Interested Player Form” and are directed to age group coaches to arrange participation in team practices. This phase provides a more personal experience, allowing for individual evaluations and direct comparisons within the team environment.

Phase 1: “The Foundation” (May 27-29) Registration required through PlayMetrics. Targeted age-group training sessions for both current and interested players. Emphasis placed on technical skills, 1v1 situations, small-sided games, and an introduction to Union KC’s club philosophy. Players may receive offers at these sessions. Sessions will be hosted at both Paragon Star and Garmin Olathe Soccer Complexes.

Phase 2:“The Competitive Edge” (Jun 3-5) Registration required through PlayMetrics. A two-day camp held at both Paragon Star and Garmin Olathe Soccer Complex for current and interested players.

● Paragon Star: June 3-4 (Evenings, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM)

● Garmin Olathe: June 4-5 (Mornings, 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM)

Sessions will mirror a typical Union KC training, including a structured warm-up, technical training, small-sided activities, and game play. Union KC coaches will evaluate players, take notes, and compare participants to determine placement and extend offers.

Phase 3: “The Final Selection” (June 6-8) Registration required through PlayMetrics. This is the traditional “tryout” phase, taking place at both Paragon Star and Garmin Olathe Soccer Complexes. Age groups and genders will have designated times and locations.

● Players should attend all sessions for their age group at all locations, regardless of whether they are from Kansas or Missouri.

● Even players who have already accepted an offer should continue attending, as their participation helps showcase groups to new players and allows for further evaluations.

● Sessions will include short technical and small-sided activities to assess player habits, work ethic, and technical abilities.

● Scrimmaging will be the primary focus, allowing coaches to compare current players with both their peers and new participants to finalize team placements based on skill, ability, and commitment levels.

A Guided Process: Our Approach

At Union KC, we believe in our club. We believe in our mission and values. We believe in our curriculum, our leadership, our innovation, and our coaches. Most importantly, we believe in doing what is right for the players.

We DO NOT believe in forcing early commitments. We will make offers to players who truly want to be part of Union KC. Our process is designed to help families make well-informed decisions with confidence. We are committed to fairness, respect, and upholding the core values that define our club: UNITED.

Player placement is a responsibility we take seriously. Our goal is to provide the best possible process to ensure every player who wants to be part of Union KC has an opportunity. If we are unable to find the right fit, we will do our best to help players find a suitable soccer home. With teams at every level, the vast majority of players find an ideal match for their current stage of development.

The Player Placement Process.  Our Player Placement Series is designed to offer multiple opportunities for players to be seen and evaluated properly.

For current Union KC players, it is crucial to attend as many sessions as possible. This allows coaches to further evaluate players within the club and make informed decisions.

For players from outside the club, attending multiple Player Placement sessions is equally important. The more we see players in different settings, the better we can assess their skill, athleticism, and commitment level. Our goal is to place players alongside those with similar abilities and aspirations, ensuring the best possible development environment.

Additionally, our Player Placement Series gives new players and families the chance to experience Union KC’s culture, meet our coaches, and understand our curriculum. Parents have opportunities to ask questions and gather accurate information before making a commitment.
